DG AGRI published its first status report on the implementation of country CAP Strategic Plans for the years 2023-2024 in June 2025. The report is based on the Annual Performance Reports that Member States must submit to the Commission by 15 February for the financial year ending the previous 15 October. Thus, this report draws on the Performance Reports submitted for the second year of the programming period ending October 2024. As area and animal-based payments paid in the financial year October 2023-October 2024 refer to claim year 2023, much of the data in practice refers to the first year of implementation of the new CAP.… Read the rest
New opportunities to visualise agricultural data
As someone often asked to make presentations, visualising data through charts and graphics is an important aid for communication. The Google Public Data Explorer was launched in March 2010 with the objective to make large, public-interest datasets easy to explore, visualize and communicate. Some of its charts and maps animate over time, which at least is fun and may help to make changes in the world easier to understand. Embedded charts and links update automatically so in principle always showing the latest available data.
The number of data sets and public data providers has been growing, and includes the World Bank’s World Development Indicators, World Economic Forum competitiveness indicators, Eurostat, OECD and others.… Read the rest
EU boosts farm subsidy millionaires by more than 20 per cent in 2009
Today, farmsubsidy.org revealed the results of an intensive two-day harvest of new farm subsidy data published by the European Union’s member states in accordance with the new laws on disclosure of beneficiaries of EU funds.
The data, relating to payments made in 2009, has been harvested from twenty seven government websites, in some cases using advanced computer programming techniques. So far, data on 38.3 billion euros of payments have been harvested (from a total CAP budget of 55 billion euros). In some cases member states have made the data easy to access, in other cases they appear to take deliberate steps to block access.… Read the rest
